COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team will head south this weekend for a three-game weekend series against Atlantic Coast Conference opponent No. 23 North Carolina. The Terps (25-17, 3-8) have won five of their last seven games heading into this weekend's match-up.

The Terps are led at the plate by senior Alex Schultz, who is batting .464 at the plate this year - the second highest average in the conference. She is in the top ten of the league in nearly every offensive category and recently became the sixth Terp in program history to score her 100th run.

Junior Kerry Hickey is the current ACC Pitcher of the Week for her performance last week. She pitched 19.0 innings and racked up 25 strikeouts. She gave up just six hits and threw her ninth career no-hitter against Virginia Tech last weekend.

Against Towson on Wednesday, Hickey allowed only one run in six innings in the circle. She gave up just three hits and did not allow a walk. She recorded six strikeouts in the game.

The Terrapin pitching unit of Hickey, as well as sophomore Kendra Knight and freshman Lexi Carroll, carry an ERA of 1.71 - the second highest in the ACC and No. 21 in the country. Knight is ranked No. 15 in the country in strikeouts per seven innings with an average of 10.7.

The Tar Heels (34-13, 8-7) are riding a seven-game win streak. They are 15-5 at home in Anderson Softball Stadium. They are batting .265 as a team and carry an ERA of 2.03.

Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. and Sunday's single game will begin at 1 p.m. as well. Gametracker will be available and fans can watch live here.
