TOWSON, Md. - Each of the Terrapins games in the twinbill went into extra innings against the Towson Tigers today, with the Terrapins winning the opening game, 2-0, then dropping the second matchup, 5-4. The Terrapins record now stands at 29-23, while Towson moves to 27-24.

Maryland had 13 hits on the day and were led by Lindsey Ubrun who was 2-for-4 in the first game with a home run in the second, while Jenny Belak was 3-for-4 at the plate in the second game with a double. Junior Keri Lounge hit her sixth triple of the year, and eighth of her career, which now ranks her as the all-time career leader for triples at Maryland.

Meredith Nelles (8-9) took a loss and a win on the day, while Abbey Welch allowed just two runs in the first game to get her second save of the season.

The Terps were hitless for the first three innings of game one, notching two singles in the fourth when Lindsay Klein and Ubrun hit line drives up the middle, but were left on base after Amanda D'Attilio grounded out. Maryland's next hit did not come until the seventh inning when D'Attilio singled, with the next two Terrapin batters also grounding out to bring up the Tigers. Towson's Aimee Rosa hit a double in the seventh, but the next two batters flied out to keep the score at a deadlock, 0-0, pushing the game into extra innings.

In the first at-bat in the ninth, Klein advanced on base on an error by the third base player. After Kara Kahler was brought in to pinch run for Klein, Ubrun knocked a single up the middle that forced a Tiger throwing error that plated Kahler and moved Ubrun to second base. Amanda D'Attilio's ground out up the middle scored Ubrun to take the 2-0 lead. Freshman Devon Williams followed with a single up the middle, yet would get caught stealing for the second out, while the next Terp batter struck out to bring up Towson. The Tigers tried to close in, posting two singles in the ninth, yet the Terps' lead held for the 2-0 win.

In the second game, the Tigers got on the scoreboard first when Navarro's RBI double scored Fraser who advanced on base after a Terrapin error. The Terps responded in the fourth when Ubrun, on a 2-2 count and ten pitches, hit her ninth home run of the year. The Tigers countered in the bottom of the inning when Aimee Rosa hit a home run to center field off of Elyse Lucas, while Fudurich followed with a double and Hess singled.

With players on first and third, Abbey Welch was called up for the Terps and retired the next batter, to finish the inning down by one. Maryland broke things open in the fifth inning notching three runs to take a 4-2 lead. Belak's RBI double scored Whitney Reigel, who had walked on. Abbey Welch followed with a single and moved to second on a throwing error, which also advanced Belak to third. Lounge hit a rocket to right field for a triple and two RBI.

The lead was short lived as the depth of the Terrapins' pitching rotation was challenged late in the game. The Tigers tied the game in the seventh inning when the Terrapins gave up three hits and two runs. With Nelles in the circle for the Terps, the Tigers had three singles, and scored two runs on a walk and on a player hit by a pitch. With two outs and the bases loaded, Lounge made a diving catch near the first base line to go into extra innings.

The Terps could not recapture the lead, with Angie Hess scoring on an errant pitch by Abbey Welch for the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Maryland's next matchup is a mid-week, non-conference doubleheader against the University of Delaware on Wednesday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m. The Terps then face ACC conference foe Florida State for their final three-game series of the season on May 6-7. Sunday, May 7 is Senior Day for the Terrapins.
