COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Kerry Hickey of the Maryland softball team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Pitcher of the Week the league announced Tuesday. Hickey earned the honor for the second time this season and fifth time for a Terrapin.
Hickey helped the Terps (32-20, 7-10) go 3-1 in two starts and three appearances on the week. On Wednesday, she pitched her tenth career no-hitter and second of the season against Delaware State. She continued her no-hit streak through five innings against Longwood Saturday afternoon.
In 16.0 innings in the circle, she allowed six hits, four runs and just two walks. Hickey collected12 strikeouts and opposing batters hit just .109 against her.
She is No. 5 in the league in ERA (1.66), in opposing batting average (.190) and is in the top ten in strikeouts (210).
The Maryland pitching staff of sophomore Kendra Knight and Hickey leads the ACC in team ERA (1.62). The unit is third in the league in opposing batting average (.187) and strikeouts (437). The Terps have given up the fewest hits in the league (230), fewest runs (110), and earned runs (80).
Knight has been honored three times this year as Pitcher of the Week, including last week.
The Terrapins will close out the regular season on the road this weekend at ACC opponent Boston College. The Terps and the Eagles will take the field for a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m. as well.
