COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 2 Maryland field hockey team started its ACC schedule with a 5-0 win over No. 12-ranked Boston College Saturday afternoon at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. It is the fifth win over a ranked opponent for the Terrapins so far this season.

Maryland (7-1, 1-0) All-Americans sophomore Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) and senior Susie Rowe (London, England/Colfe's School) each tallied two goals and an assist to lead the attack for the Terps, while senior goalkeeper Alicia Grater (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyerstown Area) held the Eagles (5-1, 0-1) scoreless, recording five saves on the day.

The Maryland defense held the opposition to without a shot in the first half on its way to recording the third shutout of the season. It also marked the seventh time in eight Terp wins the backfield has allowed just one or fewer goals.

The Terps got on the board midway through the first half as O'Donnell scored in the 12th minute off a shin-high cross from junior Brianna Davies (Anneville, Pa./Palmyra Area). Rowe followed just five minutes later with a goal off a penalty stroke. O'Donnell rounded out the scoring in the first half when she scored her ninth goal of the season off her own rebound.

In the second half, the Eagles began putting more pressure on Maryland, but the home team stood strong preserving the shutout while maintaining control of the game. Junior Nicole Muracco (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) added to the lead with her goal in the 64th minute off the assist by Rowe. Rowe delivered her second goal of the game with less than two minutes remaining when she scored off penalty corner set up by junior Alexis Pappas (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) and O'Donnell.

Grater recorded five saves, facing just eight BC shots. The Terrapin offense peppered BC's Julia Berkowitz with 28 shots, while making 14 saves. Maryland also had seven corners to the Eagle's five.

Maryland hits the road for another ACC bout, pitting the second-ranked Terps vs. the top-ranked team in the nation, Wake Forest. The game is slated for Saturday, Sept. 27 at noon in Winston-Salem, N.C. The team returns to College Park the following day on Sunday, Sept. 28 playing host to local-rival Richmond.
