Tagliente Scores Three AsTerps Defeat James Madison, 3-2,In Field Hockey

Harrisonburg, Va. - Junior Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) scored three goals and sophomore goalie Ashley Hohnstine (Oakton, Va.) recorded four saves as No. 2 Maryland defeated No. 10 James Madison, 3-2, in field hockey at Bridgeforth Stadium here tonight. The win marked the 10th consecutive for the Terps who have not lost since Sept. 6.

Maryland improved to 12-1 overall with the victory while James Madison fell to 9-3. The Terps are ranked No. 2 and the Dukes No. 10 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.

After a scoreless first half James Madison received goals from Liz Sanders and Katrina Hunter and held a 2-1 lead with 20:55 remaining in the game.

After having tied the score at one with 29:34 remaining, Tagliente scored two goals within a three minute span to give the Terps the lead and the victory. Her second goal of the night tied the game at two with 15:21 remaining. Her third with 12:37 left on the clock was enough to give the Terps the victory. It was Tagliente's second hat trick of the season and she now has eight goals on the season.

Tagliente's three goals gave her 44 for her career and pushed her point total to 113. Her 44 goals are now the sixth-highest total in school history while her 113 points moves her into the fifth place all-time.

Junior Rachel Hiskins (Victoria, Australia) recorded two assists to give her 20 for the season. Her 20 assists is the third-highest single-season total in school history. Junior Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.) recorded her career-high 10th assist of the season, it came on Tagliente's game-winning goal.

Maryland plays host to Rutgers on Saturday at Noon and Radford on Sunday at 1 p.m.
