GREENSBORO, N.C. - Katie O'Donnell, a sophomore from Blue Bell, Pa., has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week. A forward for now No. 1-ranked Terrapins; O'Donnell earns her second ACC Player of the Week honor of the season.
Helping Maryland to a 2-0 week, including an upset of top-ranked Wake Forest on the road, O'Donnel tallied three goals and collected a pair of assists for eight points over the two games.
O'Donnell assisted on the game-winning goal in the upset over the Demon Deacons, who had previously been undefeated. Then she tallied a goal of her own, sealing the win for the Terps in the final 15 minutes of the game.
The next day at home, O'Donnell scored twice in the first half, ensuring the easy 7-0 victory over Richmond. She scored the eventual game-winner in the 24th minute, then posted the insurance goal about seven minutes later, giving Maryland a 2-0 lead at the break. Later in the game, she collected an assist to finish with five points.
With her two goals against the Spiders, O'Donnell becomes the second Terrapin with double-digit goals, ranking second on the team with 12 on the season. She has also collected double-digit assists, handing out 11 to lead the team, to go along with a team-high 35 points. She ranks fourth in goals per game and second in points per game nationally.
O'Donnell and the Terrapins will visit No. 10 ranked Virginia on Saturday, October 4 for an ACC match slated to begin at 11 a.m
