COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland routed Duke 59-17 on Saturday to earn its seventh straight win and amass 697 yards in total offense. The Terps recorded 34 first downs, 362 yards rushing and 335 passing. Following are postgame quotes as the unbeaten Terrapins look ahead to next week's showdown at Florida State.

Maryland Head Coach Ralph Friedgen

On avoiding a letdown against winless Duke:
"Well I guess that answered the question of whether we would have a letdown. The kids deserve a lot of credit. They were focused and played one of their better games. Offensively, we executed the way I hoped we would, both in the running and passing game. What's really remarkable about these kids is they have never been in this position before. After last week and the euphoria that was around here...they never lost focus. They were ready to play today."

On Shaun Hill:
"I thought Shaun Hill played his best football game. He was getting back to his third, fourth and fifth option on routes, which he had not done before. He ran the ball extremely well...and he made some great decisions in putting us in the plays we had a chance to succeed. I was very pleased with our offensive performance."

On the defense:
"Defensively, I didn't think we were as sharp as what we've been. If we had a letdown, that's probably where it was, but I still thought we played pretty good."

On the uniform change:
"The red uniforms - I'm not into that but they asked for it. They can wear anything they like if they play like that."

On being undefeated heading to Florida State next week:
"I expect to win. This is an opportunity for us, and I know how good Florida State is. It's going to be a war. If we're going to win it needs to be a war."

On the support from the students:
"I did hear the crowd early, especially the students. I think we ought to open up the whole stadium up to students. Who I was really impressed with today were our students. They were there early today, they were loud, they were harassing Duke, I had to laugh. I'm excited about our students. They are involved. They are there and we hear them. The connection between the football team and our students is getting stronger every day and that's one of the things I did want to accomplish here."

Shaun Hill (on Duke, and learning a new offensive system):
"We had an efficient week of practice. We could not take Duke lightly and we had to come and play this game like any other game. Now we need to put this behind us and get ready for Florida State. This was the most comfortable (in Coach Friedgen's system) I have been on a Saturday. The thing about Coach Friedgen's system is that it is very complex and there is always something to improve on. What I have been trying to do is improve on one thing at a time."

Randall Jones (on the crowd):
"We are really excited about the crowd. They came out early and were loud, and we love to see that. That is the only place we look, is to the student section."

Mike Whaley (on playing with the second unit in the second half):
"I was out there with a bunch of the younger guys and was just making sure that everything went right and that everybody was in the right defense."

Scooter Monroe (on remaining undefeated):
"We are just trying to play all of these games one at a time and get through the season and go 11-0."

Charles Hill (on playing with confidence):
"We are playing with a lot of confidence and we seem to be getting better every week. I think we are entirely capable of going down there [Florida State] to get a win."

Duke Head Coach Carl Franks

On Maryland:
"They were an outstanding offensive football team today. This was only the second game I have ever been involved in, in my life, where the other team did not have to punt. They only time they punted was on the last play of the game."

On the Maryland offense:
"I think they had over 400 yards at halftime. That is scary, they must have finished with a record offensive performance. Shaun Hill had some big runs on us. They have a great running back. You can get [Perry] hemmed up and still have a problem getting him on the ground."

On the inexperience of Duke:
"We are playing with some guys who probably need another year before they should be playing college football. A lot of them were playing high school football last year, we are going through a painful learning experience right now. We struggled on offense. The way we played today was not very good, it was ugly at times."

Looking ahead:
"We have to make a decision now about how we want to go play next week. I don't know what we can learn from this game. We certainly need to learn how to play the option."

Comparing Maryland to Florida State and Georgia Tech:
"Offensively, what a show they put on. They're a great football team. When they get their offense scoring like they did today, they're going to score a bunch of points. Defensively, E.J. Henderson made a bunch of plays in the first half. He wasn't in there a whole lot in the second half. Maryland gives you a lot of looks and some things you need to adjust to. They are an outstanding football team."
