Softball Swings Into Fall Season

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland softball team will host Catholic at the Terrapin Softball Complex noon Saturday. The game will be the team's first in a set of five fall season competitions.

The Terps are coming off a 27-18 season in 2003. Last year's .600 winning percentage ranks third all-time in Maryland history. The 2004 squad consists of 12 returning players and five newcomers. Last year, the Catholic Cardinals ended with a 6-13 record and went 2-6 in the Capital Athletic Conference.

The Terps will play their next fall game Oct. 5 against head coach Gina LaMandre's alma mater, the College of New Jersey. Maryland will host a day-long tournament Oct. 18 featuring local rivals Towson and UMBC. The team concludes its fall season Oct. 19 in the second annual alumni game.
