COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team will play host to local rival George Washington in a midweek doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m. at Robert E. Taylor Stadium. The Terps (21-15, 1-7) have won 14 of their last 15 non-conference games this season.
Maryland is coming off of a three-game series against No. 19/16 Florida State over the weekend. The Terps went 1-2 in the series, winning the third game 6-2 on Sunday. The Terrapin defense forced the Seminoles to leave 29 runners on base over the three games. They gave up just seven runs over the series. The Terps' six runs in Sunday's win was the most the Seminoles had given up all season.
The Terps own the all-time series over George Washington 9-1 heading into Wednesday's games. Maryland has won the last six straight meetings, dating back to 2007.
Senior Alex Schultz leads the Terps at the plate with her .406 average on the year. Her RBI triple Sunday against Florida State put her in the top five of the Maryland record books in career triples. She has six in her career.
The Colonials come to College Park with a 4-19 record on the year, including 1-6 on the road. They are 1-7 in Atlantic 10 competition. Sophomore Lauren Wilson leads the Colonials at the plate with her .250 average, 14 hits and two home runs on the year.
