COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team closes its regular season Thursday night when it takes on the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth at 7:00 p.m. at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park. The Terrapins, who have already locked up the top seed in the ACC Tournament and remain atop the NFHCA poll, will be saying goodbye to five seniors who will be playing their final regular season home game.
Seniors Danielle Keeley, Ellen Ott, Susie Rowe, Sarah Scholl and Emma Thomas will be honored in a Senior Night ceremony prior to the game. The class has been one of the most successful in Terp field hockey history, with Keeley, Ott, Rowe and Scholl winning national championships in their first two years in College Park.
Thomas joined the team in the middle of this season after playing three years at the University of Bath in her native England, but already made an impact by earning ACC Player of the Week honors on October 7.
Maryland (15-2, 4-1) is attempting to go into the postseason on a six-game winning streak. VCU (4-13, 0-7 CAA), meanwhile, comes into the game on an 11-game losing streak. The Rams are led by Marie van Dessel, who leads the team with 11 goals and 27 total points.
Game time on Thursday is set for 7:00 p.m. Admission is free to the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. For those who cannot make it to the stadium, the game will be aired live at www.wmucsports.com.
