COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team will close out its regular season this weekend at Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Boston College. The Terps (32-20, 7-10) and the Eagles (15-30, 1-17) will take the field Saturday at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader and Sunday at 1 p.m. for a single game.
The Terps head north to Chestnut Hill, Mass. looking for their fourth straight ACC series win. They have taken series from Virginia Tech, North Carolina and N.C. State in their last three conference runs.
Junior Kerry Hickey was named the ACC's Pitcher of the Week Tuesday. She threw her tenth career no-hitter and the Terrapins' third of the year last Wednesday against Delaware State. She currently stands at 19-10 on the year and is the fifth pitcher in Maryland history to earn 19 wins in a season.
Hickey and sophomore Kendra Knight, combine for the best team ERA in the ACC (1.62), which ranks them at No. 8 among all NCAA Division I teams. In the ACC, they have given up the fewest hits, home runs, runs and earned runs this season.
The Eagles are coming off of a weekend series with Virginia Tech, in which they claimed their first conference win of the season. Boston College currently owns the all-time series 9-7 over Maryland, but the Terrapins won two of the last three meetings in 2009.
Both teams will head to Blacksburg, Va. next week for the ACC Softball Championships, which begin Friday, May 14.
