Fairfax, Va. - The University of Maryland women posted two 1-2 finishes yesterday at the Patriot Open Invitational at George Mason University.
In the women's shot put, Bria Johnson placed first with a mark of 47-04.50, while Jillian Anwah finished second with a mark of 47-03.00. Anwah followed that performance by winning the discus with a personal record mark of 150-7. Aysha Gregory finished just behind Anwah with a throw of 144-4, which qualified her for the ECAC Championships. Johnson also placed in the event, finishing fourth with a mark of 141-4.
On the men's side, Beau Fay and Sean Lowe both won their respective events. Fay placed first in the hammer with a throw of 179-02, while Lowe finished first in the 400 meters, running a 47.63. Teammate Anthony Walker also placed in the 400 meters, coming in third with a time of 48.46.
In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Katie Rogus placed second with a time of 15.27. In the 400-meter hurdles, Kristina Keegan and Chanel Williams placed third and fifth respectively. Keegan ran a 1:02.47, while Williams came in at 1:04.08.
Renee Clarke and Danielle Seibert also had second-place finishes. Clarke ran a 55.50 in the 400 meters, while Siebert ran a 2:12.67 in the 800 meters.
This was the final non-championship meet for the Terps, who return to competition Thursday at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, New Jersey. The NCAA East Regionals will take place May 26-27, and the NCAA Outdoor Championships will begin June 7.
