COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team participated in a food drive with the Capital Area Food Bank and other Maryland student-athletes last Friday at the annual Maryland Madness event.
The student-athletes collected over 1,600 pounds of non-perishable food items from students and fans at the event, nearly three times more than the 600 pounds collected last year.
The Capital Area Food Bank is the area's largest nonprofit resource for education in hunger and nutrition. The organization collects and distributes over 20 million pounds of food annually.
The Terrapins head to Norfolk, Va. this weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor Regional Championships. Competition will continue through Tuesday.
