COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The 10th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team will work with local athletics non-profits to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday at the Terps' 1 p.m. game vs. Boston College.
Maryland will team up with Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake, Suitland Boys & Girls Club and a Girl Scout Brownie troop from Bells Mill Elementary School in honor of the event.
Local youth girls will be invited to a pregame tour of Comcast Center as well as onto the court at halftime to take part in a special recognition honoring Maryland female student-athletes. All are welcome to come to a postgame meet and greet and autograph session with selected players in Heritage Hall. Representatives from all of Maryland's female athletic teams will be present for the on-court halftime recognition.
Freshman point guard Chloe Pavlech was voted ACC Rookie of the Week Monday by the league's Blue Ribbon Panel. She is No. 3 in the ACC in assist/turnover ratio and averages 3.9 assists per game.
The Terrapins' dominating duo of senior Tianna Hawkins and junior Alyssa Thomas are leading the ACC in scoring and rebounding. Hawkins leads in scoring with 19.1 points per game and Thomas is just behind her with 16.5 points per game. They are tied atop the league in rebounding with 10.3 per game and Thomas is No. 2 in assists with 5.6 per game.
