COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team continued competition in the Maryland Invitational Tournament Saturday at the Tennis Center of College Park.
The doubles team of sophomore Lisa Miller and Adela Matejkova advanced to the finals of doubles Flight B. The team defeated Auburn's Jil Hastenrath and Mary Claire Slade, 9-7, in the semifinals. They will face Kelly Douple and Kristen McPhilips of Miami of Ohio Sunday.
The freshman doubles duo of Karin Lundmark and Julia Huschke fell in the Flight A semifinals to Missouri's Chrissy Svetlic and Mallory Weber, 9-7. They will face Megan Marzoff and Brintney Larson of Miami of Ohio Sunday.
In the Flight A consolation round, sophomore Maggie MacKeever and freshman Oksana Krutiyenko fell to Tsippy Waterman and Edita Kulichova of Nova Southeastern, 9-8(5). They will play Miami of Ohio's Cara Wald and Anastasia Dracheva Sunday.
Lundmark advanced to the finals of the Flight A singles consolation bracket with her win over Chrissy Svetlic of Missouri, 6-3, 6-1 Lundmark defeated Delaware's Courtney Fenimore in the semifinals, 6-2,4-6,10-2. Huschke won because of an injury to her opponent, Alexa Korotkevich of Nova Southeastern.
Krutiyenko fell to Missouri's Kaitlyn Dunham, 6-1, 6-1, in the second round of Flight B. She went on to defeat Army's Niki Flach, 6-1, 6-1. In the Flight B consolation bracket, MacKeever dropped a close match to Lauren Wilson of Air Force, 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.
Miller lost in the second round of Flight C to Douple of Miami, 6-1, 7-6(5), and then defeated Missouri's Sofia Ayala 6-2, 6-1. Matejkova fell to Auburn's Slade, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1, in the second round, and then to Miami's McPhilips, 6-1, 6-3.
The Maryland Invitational tournament will conclude Sunday with the final rounds of singles and doubles.
