Members of the 2008 Maryland field hockey team mingled with former Terrapins on Saturday as alumnae returned to take part in an exhibition game at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. That was followed by a championship celebration held at College Park landmark R.J. Bentley's Bar and Grill. After scrimmaging with the Syracuse Orange, Terrapins past and present gathered at Bentley's as the restaurant's owner, John Brown, unveiled a framed jersey commemorating the team's six national championships. The jersey was hung in a prominent spot among dozens of other Maryland jerseys on the restaurant's wall.
With returning Terps Tina Edmonds and Kristy Palchinski serving as the alumnae team captains, the squad took on members of the 2008 Syracuse team in an exhibition game. The contest followed a scrimmage between the 2008 Terrapins and Orange.
Following the games at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex, the members of the field hockey family reconvened at Bentley's, where owner John Brown made a special presentation of a championship jersey framed and paired with a plaque commemorating the Terps' six national championships to date. After making a short speech in which he honored head coach Missy Meharg and the 2008 senior class, Brown unveiled the jersey only to remove it from its frame and invite all the players and coaches to sign the border.
The jersey now hangs in a prominent position in the front of Bentley's among countless other Terrapin mementos.
