CAPE COD, Mass. - University of Maryland senior defender Susie Rowe has been chosen as the 2008 ECAC Division I Field Hockey Player of the Year. Rowe received the ACC Defensive Player of the Year honor, as she scored 28 goals and recorded 74 points on the season. Maryland captured its sixth national title, and finished with an overall record of 22-2. Rowe's selection marks the third consecutive season that a defender has been named Player of the Year.
A three-time first-team All-American, Rowe is one of four finalists for this year's Honda Award. Collegiate field hockey's most prestigious honor is expected to be announced later this week.
Joining Rowe on the ECAC All-Star team is sophomore forward Katie O'Donnell. The ACC Offensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, O'Donnell followed up a brilliant freshman campaign with another stellar season. Despite missing two games to help Team USA win gold at the Junior Pan-American Games, O'Donnell finished second on the team with 68 points - the second-most points put up all time by a Terp, behind only Rowe's 74.
