COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team will head south this week to participate in two tournaments in Florida. The Terps (10-9, 0-2) will take part in the Florida Rebel Games on Wednesday, March 17, in Kissimmee and then will head to the University of South Florida's The Game tournament in Tampa over the weekend.
The Terrapins will take the field at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning against the Akron Zips, who are 7-7 on the year. The all-time series between Maryland and Akron is tied, with the Terps taking the most recent meeting in 1999.
At 11 a.m. Wednesday, Maryland will play Columbia. The Lions are 1-7 heading into the midweek match-up. The Terps own the all-time series 3-1, including the last two meetings in 2005 and 2008.
Maryland will begin its stint in South Florida's The Game tournament Friday morning at 11 a.m. against No. 18/17 Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls are 20-6 on the season, including 10-3 in neutral site games. The series between these two teams is split 1-1. Oklahoma State is the Terps' third ranked opponent of the year.
Later Friday afternoon, Maryland will play Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles and the Terrapins will meet for the first time in program history at 4 p.m. Florida Gulf Coast is 11-14 on the season.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, Maryland will play North Florida (8-14, 1-0), then will play Dartmouth (1-5) at noon. The Terps will close their time in Florida with a game against Texas Tech Sunday at 9 a.m. The Red Raiders are 25-2 on the year.
