COLLEGE PARK, Md. - For the second-straight game, the No. 1 Maryland field hockey team used a balanced attack to take down its opponents. The Terrapins had five different scorers in their 5-0 thumping of No. 8 Boston College in Maryland's ACC opener on Saturday afternoon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

The Eagles (5-2) suffered just their second loss of the season and were the first conference squad to get a chance at knocking off the reigning ACC Champions. Maryland came out unscathed, improving its overall record to 8-0.

A dominant performance by the Terps saw them attempt 20 shots, 12 in the second half, where they put the game away scoring three of the five goals. Maryland also outcornered BC, 11-2.

Senior Berber Rischen (Rotterdam, Netherlands) broke a scoreless game in the 14th minute, taking the ball through traffic and punching it in the cage for the score.

Freshman Nicole Muracco (Sewell, N.J.) put the Terps in front, 2-0, in the closing minutes of the first half off a pass from senior Emily Trycinski (Nazareth, Pa.).

After the break, Boston College was able to keep the Terps at bay on the strength of Julia Berkowitz's performance in the net. She had six of her eight saves in the second period.

However, 2005 national player of the year Paula Infante (Santiago, Chile), senior Kristina Edmonds (Emmaus, Pa.) and junior Janneke van Leeuwen (Hilversum, Netherlands) each tallied goals, Edmonds' on a penalty stroke, within a three-minute span from 51:26 to 54:26 to beak the game wide open.

Junior All-American Kathryn Masson (Richmond, British Columbia) turned away all five of the Eagles' shots and notched her fourth shutout, the team's fifth, of the season.

Maryland closes out a six-game homestand on Sunday, Sept. 17 against No. 13 James Madison. It is the first meeting between the teams since 2004. Admission and parking at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex is free.
