COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team will play host to one of 16 Regional sites next weekend in the NCAA Women's Division I Softball Championship. The Terps (33-22, 8-11 ACC) will make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1999.

Maryland will play host to the No. 14-seed Oklahoma, as well as Syracuse and Fordham next weekend at Robert E. Taylor Stadium. The Terps are scheduled to face off against Fordham Friday at 7 p.m., while Oklahoma and Syracuse will take the field at 5 p.m.

The four teams will play a double-elimination tournament over the weekend, with the winner advancing to the Super Regionals. Action starts on Friday with games at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday's games will be played at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday's game will be at noon and if necessary, a second game will be played at 2 p.m. Teams playing in those games will be determined upon results of Friday's games.

Tickets for the weekend pass are $25 and $20 for students. Single day passes are $10 and $7 for students.

All fans are advised that the University of Maryland Commencement and Graduation ceremonies will be taking place Thursday evening and all day Friday in the Comcast Center, which is adjacent to Robert E. Taylor Stadium. Fans planning to attend Friday's games should prepare for heavy traffic and limited parking. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as parking will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis in all parking lots surrounding Taylor Stadium.

"This is just an awesome accomplishment for us. I was hired at Maryland to get this team into the postseason and compete with the best in the country. We earned the respect of the NCAA committee because of our success and strength of schedule, and it is a testament to the strength of ACC softball," head coach Laura Watten said.

"We have a young, strong team, full of heart and passion, that has worked extremely hard throughout the entire year and they are ready to compete this weekend. I am extremely proud of this team. They have earned this postseason bid."

The Terrapin pitching staff of junior Kerry Hickey and sophomore Kendra Knight proved to be a strong point for the team throughout the season. The duo combined for an ERA of 1.64, which was the best in the Atlantic Coast Conference and No. 11 in the NCAA. Hickey earned her 400th career strikeout over the course of the season while Knight earned her 300th.

Senior Alex Schultz proved to be the Terrapin's most powerful hitter over the season. She averaged over .400 for most of the year and brings a .396 average into the weekend. She recently broke the 100-run mark and was named First Team All-ACC last week.
