BLACKSBURG, Va. - Senior Alex Schultz of the Maryland softball team was voted to the First Team of the All-Atlantic Coast Conference teams the league announced Friday. Schultz carried a .401 batting average over the season to finish second in the conference at the plate.

The first-time honoree finished in the top ten of the conference in nearly every offensive category, including hits, runs, doubles, total bases, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and RBI.

Her .401 season average at the plate is the second-highest in Maryland history, just behind Amber Jackson's .408 in 2007. Schultz broke the top-ten in the Maryland career record books in runs, triples, home runs and stolen bases and the season record books in doubles, hits and runs. Earlier this season, she became the sixth Terp in school history to break the 100-run mark.

Schultz and the 6th-seeded Terrapins (33-21, 8-11) will face off against No. 3-seed Florida State Friday at noon at the Tech Softball Park at Virginia Tech.

The Terps went 1-2 against the No. 25 Seminoles (41-15, 12-9) earlier this year in a weekend series at College Park. Maryland's 6-2 win in the series finale was the most runs Florida State had given up all year at that point.

All of this weekend's games will be broadcast live on TheACC.com. For more information on the parking, traffic and tickets for this weekend's games, please visit the ACC Championship Fan Guide.
