Maryland Softball Inks First Recruit For 2005 Season

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland softball team announces the signing of infielder/outfielder Jenny Belak. Belak is currently a senior at La Salle High School in Pasadena, Calif. and hails from Sierra Madre, Calif. Belak will join California natives and current Terrapins Crystal Rizzuto (San Leandro, Calif.), Rachel Greyson (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) and Lindsay Klein (Orange, Calif.) for the 2005 season.

Belak is the team captain and a three-time varsity starter at La Salle. She led her team to the Sunshine League championships for the past two years. The left-handed leadoff hitter has batted a team-high .512 over the past three seasons and was named to the All-California Interscholastic Div. V first team in both 2002 and 2003. Belak also exhibits speed, stealing a team-high 27 bases and scoring 39 runs.

Belak is also a member of the Southern California Stealth ASA travel team. She is an honor roll student at LaSalle and a member of the Latin Honor Society.
