RALEIGH, N.C. - The Maryland softball team split the first two games of a weekend series at North Carolina State Saturday afternoon. The Terps (28-19, 6-10) won the second game 2-0 and lost the first 2-0.
Senior Alex Schultz, the Terrapins' leader at the plate all season, hit a two-run home run to right centerfield in the top of the sixth inning to claim the win in the second game.
Sophomore Kendra Knight started the second game in the circle for the Terps. She allowed the Wolfpack just two hits in her 7.0 innings. She recorded seven strikeouts on the day as well.
Junior Kerry Hickey started the first game. She had six strikeouts on the day.
Both games were scoreless until the late innings. The Wolfpack scored its two runs in game one off of Terrapin errors in the sixth inning.
In the top of the sixth inning in the second game, sophomore Kathy McLaughlin singled to get on. Schultz followed with the two-run homer.
The Terps and the Wolfpack will meet at 12:30 p.m. Sunday for the final game in the ACC series.
