GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior back Susie Rowe was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Rowe scored two goals and added two assists for No. 1 Maryland in its 7-0 thrashing of No. 5 North Carolina on Sunday at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park.
The honor is the fourth for a Terrapin this season, the second for Rowe.
Rowe's first goal of the game came in the 28th minute as she scored on a penalty shot. After the intermission in the 43rd minute, Rowe (London, England/Colfe's School) fed Nicole Muracco's (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) shot into the goal to extend the Terrapin advantage to 4-0. Ten minutes later, Rowe scored her 20th goal of the season off a penalty corner to move the advantage to five. In the 61st minute, Rowe tallied her sixth point of the match by feeding a penalty corner back to Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon, Pa.) to extend the lead to 6-0.
On defense, Rowe was stellar, as she anchored the Terrapin defense that held North Carolina's eighth ranked scoring offense off the board for only the second time this season. The Tar Heels were held to one shot in the first half and five in the second period. It was Maryland's seventh clean sheet this season and third in a row.
The No. 1-ranked Terrapins have locked-up the top seed at this year's ACC Championship and will close the regular-season on Thursday night at home against Virginia Commonwealth. The Rams will visit College Park starting at 7 p.m.
