Maryland Falls To No. 15 Wake Forest, 1-0, In ACC Women's Soccer

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Maryland women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to No. 3 seed Wake Forest on Friday night in ACC semifinals at Fetzer Field. The No. 2 seeded Terps battled valiantly throughout the contest and await word of their fifth consecutive NCAA berth on Sunday night.

"We're happy to have gone this far," said ACC Coach of the Year Shannon Higgins-Cirovski. "Any win in the ACC is a big one. We've played some great teams this year ... now we will wait to hear about NCAA's."

Maryland stands at 10-9-1 while Wake Forest, ranked No. 15 in the NSCAA Poll, moves to 15-5-0.

Wake Forest's Anne Shropshire notched the game's only goal with 1:07 left in the first half off a cross from Joline Charlton.

The Demon Deacons outshot the Terps 14-6in the game. Maryland goalie tandem of Ali Wolff and Riki-Ann Serrins came Wake a bay for most of the contest. Wolff made two saves in the first half and Serrins recorded four in the second half.

The game was a very physical one as, 33 fouls were called and five yellow cards were issued.

Maryland will hear its NCAA fate on Sunday night at 10 p.m. when the selections are revealed.
