CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia's Lindsay Gusick scored on a header with 22:15 left in regulation to lift No. 13 Virginia to a 1-0 victory over Maryland on Wednesday night at Klockner Stadium before 682 fans.
The loss drops the Terps to 5-4-1 overall and 1-3 in the ACC while Virginia moves to 8-2-1 and 2-1 in the ACC.
Gusick scored off a timing play which began with a pass from Taylor Wood to Sarah Lane, Lane than crossed the ball to Gusick who beat Maryland keeper Ali Wolff (Richmond, Va.) to the left side of the goal.
Maryland and Virginia played to a scoreless first half with the Cavaliers outshooting the Terps, 7-2. Wolff made four saves in the first 45 minutes.
Wolff finished with five saves.
The Terps return to action on Saturday night, Oct. 13, as they host No. 8 Clemson (8-1 overall) at Ludwig Field on Family Day at 7 p.m.
