Women's Soccer Falls To No. 24 Baylor On First Day Of Maryland/FILA Tourney

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 24 Baylor topped the host Maryland Terrapins, 4-0 in the first day of action in the 1999 Maryland/FILA Tournament while Pittsburgh topped Pennsylvania, 1-0 in the first ever meeting between the Keystone State schools.

After playing to a scoreless first half, Baylor (4-1) opened the scoring against Maryland (2-3) at the 55:32 mark as Juli Goin (Dallas, Texas) beat Maryland goalie Ali Wolff (Richmond, Va.) from 25 yards out. Nearly three minutes later, the Bears' Nikki Hales (Grapevine, Texas) beat Wolff to the left-hand side from 15 yards out to give Baylor a 2-0 lead. Baylor closed out the game scoring twice in the final four minutes for the 4-0 final. Wolff made four saves for the Terps. Baylor outshot Maryland 13-7 and committed 10 fouls to the Terps' eight. Baylor's Dana Greathouse (Allen, Texas) recorded three saves for the shutout

In the first game, Pittsburgh's Kirsten Gellatly (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) scored on a penalty kick with 4:42 left in regulation to give the Panthers (2-1) the 1-0 victory. Pittsburgh's Nicole Bashor (Harrisburg, Pa.) made five saves to preserve the shutout while Penn's Katherine Hunt (Palos Verdes, Calif.) made three saves. Penn's loss was the debut for new coach Andy Nelson.

Action in the 1999 Maryland FILA Tournament continues on Sunday as Baylor battles Pittsburgh at Noon and Maryland hosts Penn at 2:30 at Ludwig Field on the Maryland campus.
