CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Maryland women's tennis team completed its second day of action Saturday at the Kitty Hawk Invitational Tournament which was held by University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Junior captain Michal Amir dropped her first match of the tournament Friday morning to North Carolina's Austin Smith, 5-7, 6-4,1-0(1). She bounced back Saturday afternoon to defeat Miami's Laura Vallverdu, 7-6(5), 6-3.
Sophomore co-captain Lisa Miller defeated Linzee Mabrey of North Carolina, 6-4, 6-3, Friday, and then lost her match to Miami's Bianca Eichkorn, 6-0, 6-3 Saturday. Sophomore Maggie MacKeever dropped her match to College of Charleston's Holly Dowse, 6-1, 6-2, Friday morning.
Freshman Julia Huschke lost her Friday match to Laura Reichert of North Carolina, 6-2, 6-2, and her Saturday match to Romy Farah of Miami 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Karin Lundmark lost her Friday match to North Carolina's Meg Fanjoy, 6-3, 6-0. Freshman Oksana Krutiyenko also dropped her match on Friday to Sophie Grabinski of North Carolina, 6-1, 6-2, as well as her Saturday match to William & Mary's Lauren Sabacinski, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles, Amir and Lundmark defeated Laura Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic Friday morning, 9-8(6) and then lost to Kentucky's Carolina Escamilla and Christine Johnston, 8-1, Saturday morning.
Huschke and MacKeever lost their Friday doubles match to Furman's Monica Arguello and Lauren Osborne, 8-6. Huschke paired with Alaina Trgovich of Kentucky for Saturday's doubles match. The duo lost to Kentucky's Megan Broderick and Jessica Giuggioli, 9-7.
Krutiyenko and Miller lost to Jennifer Betts and Jessica Preeg of Furman Friday morning, 8-6, and then Lauren Meier and Sarah Woestmann, 8-3, Saturday.
The Terps will finish play Sunday.
