No. 3 North Carolina Tops Terps In Women's Soccer

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team lost to No. 3 North Carolina, 5-0, Sunday afternoon at Carolina's Fetzer Field.

The Tar Heels were paced by forward Courtney Jones, who scored three goals. Casey Nogueira and Merritt Mathias scored the other two goals for Carolina.

Freshman forward Lydia Hastings put two shots on goal for the Terps, but starting goalkeeper Anna Rodenbough made the first save and reserve Ashlyn Harris stopped the second.

Sophomore Yewande Balogun, who made the start in goal for junior Mary Casey who was injured in the match at Wake Forest on Thursday, Sept. 25, stopped six UNC shots during the match.

Maryland (4-5-1, 0-2-0 ACC) returns to College Park to open its ACC home slate on Thursday, Oct. 2, against No. 8 Florida State. The Terps and the Seminoles are slated for a 7 p.m. start at Ludwig Field.
