COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Kristy Black tallied a career-high five goals to help lift No. 5 Maryland over #15 Georgetown 19-10 Wednesday on Senior Night.
The Terps (17-3) picked up their fourth win in six days, including their third against an opponent ranked in the top 15 nationally. Alex Aust led the attack with seven points on four goals and three assists. The three helpers moved the junior into third on the Terps' single-season list with 50.
It was evident early that Maryland intended to put an exclamation point on its grueling six-day stretch. Following an early Georgetown (8-7) goal in the opening minute, the Terrapin offense exploded for a crushing 7-0 run and outscored the Hoyas 12-3 in the first stanza.
Maryland dominated the draw in the first half, winning the category 11-5. Senior goalie Brittany Dipper racked up five saves in the period to lead the Maryland defense.
The Terps broke even with Georgetown in the second period and survived a 3-0 run by the Hoyas to start the half.
Maryland picked up goals from eight different players on the night, including a hat trick from freshman Kelly McPartland. Seniors Karri Ellen Johnson and Bria Phillips combined for three goals. Johnson led all players with a season-high eight draw controls. Katie Schwarzmann added four points on two goals and two assists.
"I have a wonderful group of seniors," head coach Cathy Reese said. "This is a day to honor them and be excited for them but our season is not over. Hopefully there's a lot of lacrosse left to play and that is what we keep stressing."
Maryland, which punched its postseason ticket by capturing its fourth straight conference title Monday, will learn its seed when the 2012 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship bracket is announced May 6.
