Jan. 9, 2013

DALLAS - Maryland defender London Woodberry has inked a Homegrown contract with FC Dallas of Major League Soccer, the club announced Wednesday night.

A McKinney, Texas, native, Woodberry earned Third Team NSCAA All-American honors as a senior for the Terps in 2012, helping ACC champion Maryland to eight shutouts and a trip to the College Cup for the first time since 2008.

"I'm very excited to be heading home to Texas to fulfill my dream of playing professional soccer," Woodberry said. "I want to thank my coaches, teammates and everyone at the University of Maryland who made the last four years so amazing."

Woodberry appeared in 77 games during his collegiate career, notching four goals and four assists, including three goals in his final campaign in College Park.

"We are thrilled for London as he moves on to the next phase of his soccer career," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "London has really flourished as a member of our program the past four years and grown both as an athlete and as a person. We are confident London will be a great asset to FC Dallas and wish him nothing but success."

Woodberry is the ninth Homegrown signing for FC Dallas, joining Bradlee Baladez and Kellyn Acosta as the most recent additions to the team.

Fellow Terrapin seniors Taylor Kemp and John Stertzer will find out their destination Jan. 17 when the MLS SuperDraft is held in Indianapolis.
