COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Maryland women’s tennis team took on UMBC in a rare midweek match and came away with a 5-2 victory at the Tennis Center at College Park Wednesday afternoon.

Cassandre Thebault was the highlight of the midweek contest. The freshman made her singles debut at No. 6 and blanked Shannon Clearly 6-0, 6-0. Nataliya Bredikhina and Kristina Hovsepyan also picked up easy wins.

The Terps took the advantage in doubles with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Welma Luus and Nataliya Bredikhina claimed victory at the top of the lineup while Olga Gaistruk and Kristina Hovsepyan notched an 8-3 win to seal the point.

Dominant performances on courts two, three and six helped the Terps coast to victory in singles. Bredikhina and Hovsepyan supplemented Thebault brilliant debut, giving up just six combined games in four sets.

Olivia Gaudreault gave the Terps a fifth point with a hard fought 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) win over Josefin Stange-Jonsson.

The Terps complete the regular season this weekend at home. Boston College is in town for a Saturday tilt before NC State descends into College Park for a Sunday matchup.
