COLLEGE PARK, Md - The Maryland women’s tennis team dropped its second straight contest to No. 14 Clemson, 7-0, at the Tennis Center at College Park Friday afternoon.

The Terps (5-6, 1-5 ACC) couldn’t get much going against the Tigers, who won the first set in all six singles matches. Kristina Hovsepyan and Olga Bredikhina put up strong second set performances to stretch out their respective matches, but were unable to win deciding tiebreaks.

In doubles, Welma Luus and Hovsepyan fell behind early on court 1 and ultimately dropped their match to Yana Koroleva and Beatrice Gumulya, 8-2. Alexandra Stanova and Olivia Gaudreault started off strong but faded down the stretch in an 8-4 defeat that gave Clemson the doubles decision.

The Tigers came flying out of the gate in singles, with no Clemson player losing more than three games in their first set. Hovsepyan played a strong second set to force a deciding 10-point tiebreak on court 2. Gumulya halted the comeback in the breaker and outlasted the Terp freshman, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4).

Olga Bredikhina also upped her level late in the action to knot up her match with Yuilynn Miao at a set apiece, but dropped the tiebreak, 10-4.

Maryland returns to action against No. 20 Georgia Tech this Sunday. Play will commence at noon from the Tennis Center at College Park.
