Strange's Homers Lift Terps Past Eagles

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman Juli Strange hit two home runs, one a two-run shot to end the game, to lead Maryland past Boston College, 10-1, in five innings. Strange led a dominant outing by the Terrapins, who outhit the Eagles, 11-5.

Sophomore Kaitlin Schmeiser commanded the circle for the Terrapins (25-23, 9-6 ACC), as she held the Eagles (11-30, 2-13) to one run on five hits, no walks with five strikeouts.

The Terrapins took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Shannon Bustillos singled to score them both. Candice Beards reached on a fielding error to score Bustillos for the third run.

Boston College picked up a run in the top of the second. Maria Pandolfo doubled down the left field line, then Ronnie Mae Ayers hit her in with a base hit to left.

Juli Strange pushed it back to a three-run lead with a home run to dead center in the bottom of the second. Hawvermale got on with a walk, McCann doubled to right, and one more run scored off a wild pitch for a 5-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Maryland ended the game with five runs. Bria Taylor came on to pinch run for Bustillos. Taylor stole second, then Beards tripled off the right field wall to score the both. Lexi Carroll sent a base hit to left to score Beards. With two outs, Strange sent a two-run homer over the centerfield wall to end the game at 10-1.
