COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Terps split their doubleheader on Saturday at the Maryland Invitational, dropping a 6-2 decision to Utah before earning a 4-2 victory over the Yale Bulldogs.

The Terps return to action on March 16 against Tennessee as part of the Hawaii Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Game 1 – Box Score

The Terps got off to a strong start in their first game of the day vs. Utah, and led 2-1 at the end of the third inning. The key run came after second baseman Sky Ellazar launched an opposite field double and Brigette Nordberg drove her in with a RBI single.

Pitcher Sydney Golden had a solid start with four strikeouts in six innings.

Maryland’s offense slowed down in the later innings, and the Utes took advantage scattering five runs in the final four frames.

Game 2 – Box Score

Pitcher Ryan Denhart had yet another fantastic outing with five strikeouts in seven innings as Maryland ended the day with a 4-2 win over Yale. She finished the weekend with 16 total strikeouts and posted a 1.31 ERA in 21.1 innings pitched.

After Yale took an early lead, the Terps fought back as Anna Kufta drove in Ellazar to tie the game after the Hawaii native drew a lead-off walk.

While the game was close in the early innings, Maryland took command in the middle innings. The game flipped in the fourth inning when JoJo McRae drove in two teammates with an infield single where Yale’s first basemen never threw the ball to the catcher.

McRae would finish with a run to go along with her two hits and two RBI.
