IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Maryland women’s soccer team fell by a 4-0 score against Iowa at the Iowa Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.
The Terrapins (7-5-2, 1-5-1) gave up three first half goals, all three coming in the first 23 minutes. Senior Madison Turner led the Terps in shots with three.
Iowa got on the board in the second minute after an own goal. The Hawkeyes doubled the lead through Olivia Fiegel in the ninth minute before Devin Burns made it 3-0 to the home side in the 23rd minute.
Maryland created some chances throughout the afternoon but could not capitalize. Turner notched Maryland’s first shot in the 16th minute, but her effort went wide. In the 39th minute, junior Kady Badham made a streaking run down the right side of the field and send in a dangerous cross, but no Terp could get on the end of it.
Iowa made it 4-0 in the 49th minute when Karly Stuenkel scored her second goal of the season. Maryland had good late chances through Darby Moore, Sarah Kovalchick and Anissa Mose, but could not find the back of the net.
Maryland returns to the field Thursday night when Ohio State travels to College Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the action can be seen on BTN Plus.
