COLUMBUS, Ohio – 10th-ranked Ohio State secured a 62-14 victory over visiting Maryland on Saturday evening at Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes jump to 5-1 (3-0 B1G) on the season with the win, while the Terps move to 3-2 (1-1 B1G).
Junior Ty Johnson provided a standout play for the Terps in the first quarter, returning a kickoff 100 yards to make it 14-7 with 9:40 remaining. Johnson became the first Terp with a kick return for touchdown since Will Likely took one 100 yards to the house against Iowa on October 31, 2015.
Maryland’s defense and special teams delivered some more highlight plays in the opening half, including a blocked field goal from senior Chandler Burkett to spoil a nearly four-minute drive from the Buckeyes. Burkett would later recover his third career fumble in the second quarter, after senior Josh Woods forced the ball out of the hands of OSU running back J.K. Dobbins.
Freshman Javon Leake notched his second career touchdown in the game, scampering 20 yards to the end zone for the rushing score.
Ohio State entered the game with the top offense in the Big Ten, and the Buckeyes capitalized on opportunities throughout the game to secure win.
Maryland will return home for a matchup with Northwestern (2-3, 0-2 B1G) on Saturday, October 14. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 with kickoff slalted for 3:30 pm.
