COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland women's soccer head coach Ray Leone announced the program's 2017 fall schedule Friday afternoon.
“This fall we have an outstanding schedule that will pose our young team with many exciting challenge,” Leone said. “I know we are all looking forward to the season ahead and hope to see all Terp fans out in force this fall."
Maryland will play nine home matches at Ludwig Field this fall, including against two of the three teams that shared the Big Ten regular season title last year; Penn State and Minnesota.
Maryland opens its season with a pair of home games, both with 7 p.m. starts against Drexel (Friday, Aug. 18) and Navy (Sunday, Aug. 20). The Terps then hit the road for the first time against Gardner-Webb on Friday, Aug. 25 and at Furman (Sunday, Aug. 27, 11 a.m.)
A return to Ludwig Field follows as the Terps face off with Richmond on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. Maryland then takes a short trip to George Mason to take on the Patriots (Sunday, Sept. 3) The final nonconference date of the season comes on Thursday, Sept. 7 as the Terps clash with William & Mary at 7 p.m.
The Terps open conference play at Rutgers on Sunday, Sept. 17. That starts a three-game stretch of road conference matches, as Maryland travels to face Illinois (Friday, Sept. 22) and Northwestern (Sunday, Sept. 24).
The conference home opener comes against Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. as a part of a doubleheader with Maryland's men's team at Ludwig Field. Reigning Big Ten tournament champions Minnesota comes into College Park Sunday, Oct. 1 with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
Maryland heads to Nebraska (Thursday, Oct. 5) and Iowa (Sunday, Oct. 8) to continue conference play. A three-match home stand follows with matches against Ohio State (Thursday Oct. 12, 7 p.m.) and Penn State (Sunday, Oct. 15, 1 p.m.) before the home season finale with Michigan State on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
The season concludes with a trip to Purdue on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Maryland will also play two exhibition matches against Georgetown (Friday, Aug.11, 7 p.m.) at Ludwig Field and at Virginia (Sunday, Aug. 13).
Maryland returns seven starters and adds a top-25 recruiting class as it heads into the 2017 season. Top goal scorers Chelsea Jackson (9) and Jarena Harmon (8) return along with defensive stalwarts Hope Gouterman and Jlon Flippens.
