Northwestern Tops Terps in B1G Quarterfinals

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Melo Trimble led all scorers with 20 points but No. 6 seed Northwestern topped No. 3 seed Maryland, 72-64, in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament at Verizon Center Friday night.

Trimble notched his 13th game with 20 or more points this season to lead Maryland (24-8) which fell in the quarterfinal round after advancing to the semifinals in each of its first two trips to the tournament. Trimble also paced the Terps on the glass with six boards and notched his 500th career made free throw in the second half.

Freshmen Kevin Huerter (19) and Anthony Cowan (13) each scored in double figures for the Terrapins.

Northwestern shot 55 percent from the floor and 47 percent from beyond the arc for the game. The Wildcats were led by Vic Law and Scottie Lindsey who posted 17 points each.

Maryland will find out its NCAA Tournament destiny when the bracket is announced Sunday evening.
