Head coach Brenda Frese welcomed former Terrapin Anjalé Barrett to the coaching staff as the Maryland women’s basketball team’s Director of Recruiting Operations and Player Personnel in October 2016.

Barrett played for the Terrapins from 2008-2012, helping them to a record of 140-35 (.800), the 2009 and 2012 ACC titles, four NCAA Tournament appearances and three Elite Eights.

She will assist with daily office duties, recruiting operations and community relations.

“We are always excited when we can welcome home one of our own,” Frese said. “Anjalé was a great player for us in our program and as a point guard, will bring a tremendous dynamic to our staff. She's a Terp at heart and loves this program. I am thrilled that she is ready to get into coaching. Her future is so bright."

The Bronx native played in 137 career games for the Terrapins, starting in 80. She scored 796 career points and notched 486 career assists. She is sixth on Maryland’s all-time list in assists.

“I am so excited to be back working with Coach B and the rest of the staff,” Barrett said. “I had so many great memories at Maryland, so it’s great to be back and help the current team. Coach B has been so supportive with all of us trying to achieve our goals and I am very grateful for this opportunity.”

Barrett was a third round WNBA draft pick in 2012. She played professionally in France for two seasons with the team Caen France. After playing overseas, Barrett served as an assistant coach at the College of New Rochelle, working with daily practice planning, player development and drills.

Barrett has worked Maryland’s camps and clinics over the last nine years. She earned her bachelor’s degree in American Studies in 2012.
