COLLEGE PARK, Md. – With the 2016 fall semester in full swing, the University of Maryland Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted a Welcome Back Barbeque for all student-athletes Tuesday.
Students from all 20 athletic teams gathered at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium to kick off the 2016-2017 athletic season. University president Dr. Wallace Loh, NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Nick Hadley and SAAC president Hannah Dewey (softball) addressed student-athletes and Maryland Athletics staff about the importance of athletics and academics.
“It was so great to see everyone come together for the new year,” said Dewey. “I’m so excited to see what this group of athletes is going to do this year.”
While enjoying a barbeque dinner, student-athletes also had the opportunity to play carnival games, including corn hole and connect four.
Mission BBQ donated the evening’s meal, providing smoked turkey, pulled chicken and pork, baked beans and corn bread. Additionally, Hofmann Sausage, ShopRite and Rita's Italian Ice provided dinner and dessert for the barbeque.
Maryland Athletics sincerely appreciates the generous donations from Mission BBQ, Hofmann Sausage, ShopRite and Rita’s Italian Ice.
