Five Terps Receive Scholastic All-America honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Five members of the Maryland Gymnastics team received National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Scholastic All-America Team individual honors, the association announced this past week.

Recent graduates Jessie Black and Elizabethe Manzi along with rising seniors Shannon Skochko, Karen Tang and rising sophomore Nikki Chung represented the Terps who earned the academic honor for the 2013-2014 school year.

For recent graduate Manzi, who graduated with a degree in civil engineering and 3.90 GPA, the honor marks her fourth consecutive year named to the team. Skochko, a physiology and neurobiology major, earned the honor for a third consecutive year with a 3.81 GPA.

Jessie Black, Karen Tang and Nikki Chung were all first-time recipients of the honor.

In total, 571 student-athletes were named to the All-America team. In order to be named to the team student-athletes must earn a year-long or cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

As a team, the Terps overall GPA also increased from a 3.17 in 2012-2013 to a 3.19 in 2013-2014.
