COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team capped off a busy first week of preseason with a trip to the beach and added the newest baby Terp Sunday with the birth of assistant coach Joppe de Vries' son.
Tijn de Vries was born on Saturday and weighed 6 lbs, 8 oz.
The Terrapins started the 2014 season off with practices and meetings Aug. 12. They met all members of the support staff, then took the field for the for the very first training session.
On the third day of training, Kara Lentz of the Big Ten Network brought her crew to check out the 2014 Terps. They shot a feature to introduce the Maryland field hockey program to the international television network.
The Terrapins ended their first week of training with a trip to the Delaware beach and were joined by family and friends. The Terps enjoyed paddleboarding and soaked up some sun to take time away from the field.
