Terp Trio Honored by Coaches Association

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Maryland’s Amina Smith and Amber Melville earned first team All-America honors for their performances last weekend at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Nationals.

Thea LaFond also earned second team All-America honors and was an honorable mention selection by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association.

Smith and Melville each finished among the top eight in the nation in the women’s high jump earning first-team selection. LaFond was 15th in the high jump and earned second team honors with a finish among the top 16.

LaFond also earned honorable mention with a 20th-place finish in the triple jump on Friday.

Maryland’s trio earned six team points at the Nationals, tying for 37th place among 67 scoring teams at the meet, hosted by the University of Oregon.
