COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Former Terrapin Sunny Jane was recently called up to compete with Lesotho as it qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Jane, a 22-year-old midfielder who is currently with Wilmington Hammerheads FC, moved to the U.S. from the tiny African country of Lesotho when he was 13.
After notching a hat trick in a 4-2 exhibition win against the U20 U.S. men’s national team with the Hammers, Jane recorded an assist in 60 minutes of play in a starting role during Lesotho’s upset win over Liberia. The win, which was their first qualifying win in seven years, put them in the second round of qualifying in Group C along with Angola, Burkina Faso and Gabon.
Lesotho is slated to play Kenya in July for a friendly at home.
