Happy Spring, Terp Nation!

As the sun continues to shine, so do our men’s and women’s lacrosse programs. Both programs captured at least a share of the ACC Regular Season titles last weekend, and boast top seeds heading into the ACC tournament this upcoming weekend.

Individually, both programs were well-represented on the All-ACC teams, announced on Wednesday. Senior goalie Niko Amato earned his fourth All-ACC selection to lead a league-best five Terps on the men’s side. Meanwhile, the women boasted a league-high four student-athletes on the first team and another on the second. Good luck to both teams as they look to close celebrated campaigns as members of the ACC.

The women’s track & field team once again showcased its dominance in the jumps as senior Amina Smith won the women’s high jump at the ACC Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C. Smith entered the contest ranked second in the nation and set a school record, clearing 6 feet 1.5 inches.

The baseball team took two out of three games against No. 25 Georgia Tech over the weekend. Jake Stinnett pitched a complete game gem in front of a great crowd on Friday night before the Terps took the series the following day.  Following the series win on Saturday, the players and staff members gathered to shave their heads, raising money for the Vs. Caner Foundation. Maryland has raised more than $18,000. A special thanks to the team for its continuing efforts to help raise cancer awareness.

The women’s golf team competed at the ACC Championship last weekend and junior Juliet Vongphoumy led the Terps with a 15th place finish. The women’s tennis team finished its regular season at home with a great ACC win over NC State and recorded the most conference wins since 2006. Softball has won five of its last seven contests.

The university adopted the "THINK B1G" theme to provide a series of special events, campus celebrations, and promotional events to mark the University's entry to the Big Ten Conference. To commemorate the historic move to The Big Ten, I attended the alumni association’s fifth annual Maryland in Manhattan event on Thursday, April 24. It was great to see so many of our successful alumni and friends of the university in attendance. Congratulations to the 2014 honorees, Robert Kashan, Aliza Licht and Paul Schulman!

As the weather gets warmer, the competition for our student-athletes only heats up. We hope to see you at Maryland Day on Saturday, April 26. The day will include the Big Ten Network handing out Maryland branded Big Ten items and information, as well as football, men’s and women’s basketball, and volleyball team autograph sessions. There will also be an equipment yard sale being held in Heritage Hall starting Friday, April 25, to support the Terrapin Club Scholarship Fund. With lacrosse, softball, baseball and golf still in action, there’s no better time to show your support for Maryland Athletics!

Go Terps!
