COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland campus welcomed thousands of fans, friends, and neighbors for a spring visit at the 16th annual Maryland Day Saturday. The intercollegiate athletics department joined all other campus programs with fun-filled activites under the Athletics Tent on Hornbake Plaza.
The Big Ten Network handed out Maryland branded Big Ten Network items, as well as information on the network. During a football autograph session, members of the 2014 football team signed autographs and hosted Uplifting Athletes activities, where donations were made to help raise money awareness for cystic fibrosis.
The men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as members of the volleyball team, also held autograph sessions.
Several of Maryland’s fall sports programs competed in spring competitions on Maryland Day as well. The Terrapins’ men’s and women’s soccer teams were in action at Ludwig Field. The women’s team faced West Virginia at 12:30 p.m., while the men’s team played St. John’s at 3:30 p.m.
The Maryland volleyball team also held a spring scrimmage from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Comcast Center Pavilion.
Comcast Center was also open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for walking tours.
In conjunction with Maryland Day, the Maryland athletics department held an equipment yard sale on April 25 and 26 in Heritage Hall inside Comcast Center with all proceeds benefitting the Terrapin Club Scholarship Fund. A session from 3 to 6 p.m. was held on Friday, April 25 for Terrapin Club Scholarship Fund donors.
