-Maryland and Towson are set for a 7 p.m. first pitch from Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Md., in the first game of the first annual Ripken Cup. Game two of the cup is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7. Should the series result in a tie, the cup will be awarded to the team with the most combined runs over the two contests.
-Lefthander Zach Morris will be making his second start as a Terrapin Tuesday night. In his first career start, Morris pitched 4-1/3 innings at Wake Forest giving up two earned runs on four hits while striking out three. Morris earned a no-decision in an 11-3 Terrapin win over the Demon Deacons.
-Morris and the Maryland pitching staff rank fourth in the ACC with a 3.14 ERA and are holding opposing teams to a .229 batting average, the third-lowest average in the conference. In non-conference action, Maryland has posted a 2.15 ERA and is holding opposing offenses to a .175 average.
-Of Maryland's league-high six shutouts this season, five have come in non-conference play. Most recently, the Terps blanked George Mason (11-0) on April 8.
-Jose Cuas and LaMonte Wade have led the team offensively over the last 10 games. Cuas and Wade lead the team in hitting with a .350 average and are slugging .475, while Cuas ranks first on the club in RBI (10).
-Wade and second baseman Brandon Lowe enjoyed a solid week for the Terps. Since Tuesday, Lowe is hitting a team-high .333 with a .542 OBP. Lowe has driven in four runs during the stretch, while slugging .400. Wade went 6-for-20 (.300) last week with three RBI and three runs scored.
-As a team, the Terps are hitting .280 in non-conference action this season and averaging slightly over six runs per game. Shortstop Blake Schmit leads the club with a .333 average in the 17 contests with Charlie White has driven in a team-high 13 runs.
- Maryland leads the all-time series with Towson, 42-30-2. The Terps have won four in a row and six of the last night meetings with the Tigers including victories in both games last season. The Terps won a slugfest at Towson on April 24, 16-15, and followed up that win with an 11-3 victory on April 30.
