Terps in 13th After Day One at Briar's Creek

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C.- The Maryland women’s golf team is in 13th place after the first day at the Briar’s Creek Invitational at the Golf Club at Briar’s Creek in Johns Island, S.C.

The Terps played two rounds and shot a total score of 618 (315-303). They were led by Alexandria Papell, who is tied for first place after shooting a 145 (71-74) during the first day. Papell will look to stay atop the leaderboard tomorrow in the final round.

Emily Gimpel and Juliet Vongphoumy had nearly identical numbers after the first day. Gimpel is tied for 43rd place after shooting a 156 (79-77). Vongphoumy is in 50th place after shooting a two-round score of 157 (81-76).

Jessica Gregory and Heidi Baek rounded out the group. Gregory shot a 160 (84-76) and is in 62nd place. Baek is tied for 85th place after a first day score of 169 (86-83).

GRU Augusta is atop the team leaderboard with a total two-round score of 596 (300-296).

The final round will start tomorrow with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
