COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Jake Stinnett has been selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week for third time this season and named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, as announced Monday, for his performance against then-11th ranked NC State.
Stinnett is the first ACC pitcher to earn three weekly league awards in a single season since 2011. The Vista, Calif., native struck out a career-high 14 batters in Maryland’s 10-0 victory against the Wolfpack on Friday. Stinnett’s 14 strikeouts are the most by a pitcher in an ACC contest and the most for a Terrapin pitcher since 2008.
Stinnett held the Wolfpack to four hits over eight scoreless innings to earn his third win of the season. The senior righty struck out nine of the first 17 batters faced, and only walked one hitter.
